What is an IQP?

An IQP (Independent Qualified Person) is a professional accepted by a regional authority as being qualified to carry out, supervise, and certify the inspection, maintenance, and reporting procedures for specified building systems listed on a Council compliance schedule.

For emergency power systems, this certification is required as part of your annual BWOF process.

To be recognised as an IQP, a person must:

  • Be approved by the relevant regional authority
  • Be registered on the regional IQP register
  • Have thorough knowledge of the Building Act 2004
  • Be independent, with no financial interest in the equipment or related works
  • Be qualified to inspect, assess, and certify compliance for the specified system

An IQP can issue formal certification confirming that all required procedures have been completed in accordance with legislative requirements.
